How to write the perfect press release

Press releases are an essential element of any public relations strategy. These short, compelling documents detail product releases, event announcements and other newsworthy item a company produces. Here is how you can grab maximum media attention with a perfectly written Press Release:

    1. Grab attention with good headline

A strong headline will pull in journalists seeking good stories. Your headline should be engaging and accurate.

    2. Get to the point

In the first paragraph get straight to the point and the message you are looking to convey. Media are busy with the majority only having time to read the first sentence then scan the rest, following paragraphs should be for supporting information.

    3. Include hard facts, quotes or statistics

Amongst the creative writing, pack your press release with hard facts to support the significance of the product/service that you are trying to pitch for. Providing quotes from someone relevant in the company positions the brand as a source of information and authority. Whilst statistics and official facts back up points and make the release compelling to achieve those bigger press pieces.

    4. Make it flawless

Proof read your release and make sure you ask your colleagues to proof read as well before sending it out. There is nothing more off putting to a journalist than receiving a slapdash release.

    5. Include your contact information

Obvious...you would be surprised how many people forget or do not include the correct details. Always provide your name, company name, email, and telephone number. Releases are often kept on file and further information may be needed. With media working to deadlines they will not have the time to root through emails in hope of finding the sender.
